Does anyone else have a love for indoor plants that has turned into an obsession? I bought my first indoor plant about six months ago. I have a 4 and 2 year old and had to remove my indoor plants when they started using the soil as a play tool. But recently I thought, they have enough toys, could I be a grown up again and have plants inside? YES! It appears they are not interested in my Devil’s Ivy or Happy Plant at all.
So my one plant quickly turned into 11 plants. Yes, 11. I don’t know how it happened but the love and stress I have for these plants can be all consuming. Are they too dry, too moist, just right? How's the light? Should I move them? I don’t know! Cue the moisture reader – a nifty little tool that tells me when to water my plants. But then I go away for three weeks on holiday back in June. I can’t leave instructions to care for my plant babies with just anyone. So I let them be. Luckily I only lost two plants (which were quickly replaced, thanks Grow Centre Enoggera for being such a great place to shop and only 5 minutes from my house!)
What happens to these plants that aren’t so lucky? Well they go to “plant rehab”. The corner of my garden when they either thrive or die away from my constant love and attention. A particular soft spot for me are my plants Precious and Tiddler, the Fiddle Leaf Figs. Both purchased a few months apart and doing stints in plant rebab. My friends will know that the Fiddle is my archnemisis of plants. Too hot, too cold, too wet, too dry. These Goldlilocks of plants are beyond me. I’ve also learned my lesson that maybe I shouldn't name my plants. It’s just too hard when they go.
I’d love some advice from anyone who can keep a Fiddle Fig alive…
Till next time Wellspringers,
Love Holly
PS At the time of publishing this blog, Tiddler has gone to the green bin. Precious is back on the deck to the Wellspring Pilates studio so say hi to her next time you visit. She's making a Spring comeback!
