Rebel: My escape from Saudi Arabia to Freedom by Rahaf Mohammed
Not a light holiday read but a gripping story of an 18 year old girl escaping Saudi Arabia whilst she is on holidays with her family in Kuwait. An incredible journey of courage and strength as she tries to escape to Australia but is detained in Bangkok on her arrival. She barricades herself in her hotel room and uses the power of social media to appeal for help. This book sends chills down my spine and makes me forever grateful my girls were not born in a country with such horrific treatment of women.
I'll leave you with this by Kylie Ladd
This is an easy read for a beach getaway with enough family relationship drama and a thought-provoking storyline to keep you entertained. The adult son is killed in a shooting his organs are given to a number of people. The sisters - who have quite the complicated relationship - decide to track down the organ recipients.
The Dry by Jane Harper
I read this book a few years ago but I would still highly recommend it. A Federal Investigator comes to town to assist with what appears to be a murder-suicide. But all is not as it seems. This has also been turned into a movie with Eric Bana (but I haven't seen it). It's a beautifully written story set in outback Australia.
The Other Guest by Heidi Perks
A woman and her husband are on a getaway at a resort in Greece. The woman watches another family for a few days until a catastrophic event threatens to tear their two families apart. An interesting who-dunnit mystery right until the very end. A real page turner!
The Good Sister by Sally Hepworth
The story of two sisters and their complex relationship. One who is on the spectrum and who offers to have a baby for her sister. A fascinating read about sisters, human emotions and how they interact with each other. With some great twists. I really enjoyed this read.
Tell me what you are reading...
