Is it time to start Spring cleaning?

Writer's picture: Holly Kluver-JonesHolly Kluver-Jones

The end of winter motivates me to get the house in tip-top shape. I have a list of jobs that I start doing like wiping skirting boards, taking everything out of my wardrobe and decluttering things (donate, sell or throw depending on the quality). I also book in annual jobs like knife sharpening, rug cleaning and pest control. This helps me feel calm and organised.

I love giving the garden a refresh, cutting all the dead leaves away. It brings me great joy watching new shoots on my plants! And my indoor plant babies get fertiliser to encourage them to grow as well.

Sometimes when it all feels a bit much, I start small. Like a drawer in the kitchen or the bathroom cabinet. Spring cleaning for me is a bit like decluttering my mind. Clearing out the cobwebs and giving room for fresh ideas to grow.

This year I'm working on Spring cleaning my body as well. I'm getting serious about exercise and I've committed to twice a week Pilates at another studio for the next three months (at least). Yes, it seems mad - I have this beautiful space where I can workout. But I'm just like the rest of my clients - it's hard to find the time. I lack motivation. And when you've got a 3 year old lying on your chest doing feet in straps, even your favourite exercise isn't as fun anymore. I'm also working on regular massages/acupuncture to help relieve tension in my neck and shoulders. I need to care about my body; no one will do it for me.

Sometimes we need that person to keep us motivated. For you, the reader, that is ME! I will prompt you to book your classes, check in if you haven't booked and make sure we keep on track with your fitness goals. I will challenge you each week and help you get stronger and fitter. But the only way you will see improvement is consistency. Book your class. Turn up. I heard one of my clients tell me they almost can't recognise their legs in their mirror as they are getting so strong and shapely! That's as a result of YOU turning up once or twice a week and committing to your sessions.

So when it comes to Spring...

Think about spring cleaning your body. What habits do you want to create? What habits do you want to break?

I'm not going to sell you a "summer bodies are made in winter" spiel. If you have a goal you want to work towards (in summer), then I will help you get there. But for me, I'm working on my old lady body. I want 70+ year old Holly to be getting out of bed in the morning pain-free. Doing a day of gardening and not aching all over. Doing fun activities with my friends. So my goal for Spring cleaning is to set up great habits for my body that help me for the next 30 years.

Tell me your goals - I will help you get there, Wellspringers.

Till next time,

Holly

xx
