I love New Year’s Resolutions. I know they aren’t for everybody but there’s something about the New Year that gives me a chance to start fresh and change my mindset. I’m very keen on lifestyle changes that will make me, and our family, happier, healthier and calmer. My husband detests New Year’s Resolutions but we’ve been together 22 years so he entertains this part of my personality.
So to my blog readers, here is my plan for the year. I’m making it public so hold me accountable!
I’m moving away from the line “I’ll lose 5kg” because that never happens. There’s no context, no way to achieve it and what’s 5kg? I don’t actually care what I weigh anymore, I just want to be strong and healthy.
One year my New Year’s Resolution was so simple, I had only one. It was “floss every day”. I got to mid-February and failed.
So, this year I’m trying it a bit differently. I will focus on the premise of what I am trying to achieve. The second part is about how I will achieve it. But it’s not the only way and it may evolve over the year. 12 resolutions seems like a good number (12 months of the year). It also means I can listen to 12 podcasts in December if I’m not doing well at that resolution. Ha!!
I’m certainly not trying to impose my resolutions on anyone but I’d love some support so drop me an email if you have any thoughts/comments! hello@wellspringpilates.com.au
In 2022, I want to…
1. Lighten the mental load
Not worry about the household/life tasks that have been reallocated to someone else! Trust they will be done and everything will be ok. I also want to focus more on the present, not the past or the future.
2. Have a strong body
I will do 3 Pilates workouts per week, 1 swim at Newmarket Pool and 1 walk. Remind myself about how incredible my body is and that being strong and fit will help me carry groceries up the stairs, lift my kids, avoid knee and back pain etc.
3. Have a strong mind
I want to learn more so I will listen to one podcast a month. (I’m open to suggestions here!)
4. Feel rested
Commit to being in bed by 9.30pm at least five nights per week and reading one book per week.
5. Enjoy quality time with my husband
One date night per month. We will take it in turns to organise the sitter (if required) and the event/activity (so you get a New Year’s Resolution by default, Mr Jones!)
6. Be present for my girls
This is a big year with my eldest going to Prep and my youngest at Pre-Kindy. I want to enjoy our afternoons with quality time to listen to what they have to say and do activities that make them happy (here’s to another year of craft-ernoons).
7. Be grateful for what I have
Use my beautiful journal from my friend Lisa – at least three times per week. Reflecting on what I have and what I have achieved is important for perspective.
8. Feel challenged professionally
Find one professional education course to do by the end of 2022.
9. Nurture my adult friendships
Enjoy quality adult time with people that bring me joy. Twice a month I would like to see a friend for a coffee, a walk or a meal. Without kids!
10. Find my creative space
This one requires extra thought. I haven’t figured out what my creative space is beyond being a Mum and now having a Pilates studio. I may copy my sister and do her pottery course because then I’m also nurturing my adult friendships! This one will be a work in progress.
11. Nourish my body
Cook two new healthy recipes per month. Enjoy delicious food and drinks in moderation.
12. Give back
I want to volunteer at my girls’ school/Kindy, help others that need a pick me up or some other random act of kindness. One good deed per month ideally.
