What do you think of when you hear the word BALANCE?
Is it about having stability in your life?
Is it about finding time to get everything done on a daily basis?
Is it about being able to get out of a chair and not worry about falling over?
Do you allocate time for yourself?
When I first think of the world Balance, I think of having enough time for my family, to see my friends, to run my house, to build my new business, to do chores and then at the bottom of the list I think, is there time left for me? I realised if I waited till everything was done, I would never have time for myself. So now when I think about Balance, I make sure I do a few things each week that are for me in my “credit column” of life. That includes Pilates (of course!), maybe a walk on my own, even spending some time with a good book, a candle and a glass of wine. Rest and recharge time is so important in getting the balance right. It can be hard sometimes when we are being pulled in different directions – our family, our work, our friends, the never-ending to-to list but I encourage you to put yourself at the top every once and a while. It will make you feel better, energised and more stable.
This is not an easy thing to do and I'll be honest, I've being doing lots of things for other people lately. But I recently stopped and designated some "me time" in the diary. And I'm on week 2 of this approach and feeling much happier. I will be doing my best to keep this up as we move into the silly season of Christmas (don't even get me started on why everyone thinks we MUST catch up in November/December. HELLO!! January is WIDE open).
What about BALANCE in the future? Have you given any thought to the life you want to lead when you are older? In your 60s, 70s, 80s and beyond if we are lucky enough.
For me, I want to be able to walk without pain, bend down and tie my shoes, get off the couch without a groan or a crick in my back. I'd like to have the time to start a new hobby (maybe golf or tennis! Imagine the possibilities) and I want my body to be able to help me achieve this goal. Older people are susceptible to injuries from falls, so for me, Balance is about trying to prevent these injuries.
This is another reason why Pilates can help you today and tomorrow with Balance. We work all the muscle groups in a session – especially the core, legs and glutes. These areas of our body will help us stay strong in the later years and help keep our Balance.
Pilates is about a mind-body connection. When we stop, slow down and take a deep breathe, we can calm that monkey-mind. This can help give us perspective and find the right Balance.
Come see me in the studio today. I'll help you improve your BALANCE in life.
Till next time Wellspringers,
Love Holly
